Union of campus journalists organizes “Global Campus Journalism Summit”
The programme which started few minutes to 11, began with the National and school anthem. Which was followed by the Press prayer, then the UCJ president's speech.
Afterwards, The Union president, Mr. Olushile Ogunrinu was called up to present the famous 5 awards to the awardees.
The second key note speaker, Dr. Jide Johnson spoke on the use of AI in journalism and emphasized on editorial integrity when using AI. He made a concluding statement "As campus journalist d, strive at all times to uphold community interest”
Afterwards, the panelist session commenced. The panelists were Mr. Mojeed Alabi, Mr. Sunday Oguntola, Mr. Ifedayo Ogunyemi and Mr. Faith Omoniyi. One of the panelists stated that the human factor cannot be taken away in journalism as there is a limit to what AI can do.
They progressed into the award section when Nelson Gloria from UIMSA PRESS was awarded as the best inductee. The most energetic inductee award was won by Oyetoro Joshua from ACLAS PRESS.
In an interview with Queens Hall press, the best inductee, Nelson Gloria expressed how she felt about the win, she said that,
"I was not expecting it. Prior to the announcement, I was like it does not matter if I win. Even if I don't win, I want it to be the other girl from UIMSA PRESS that was nominated. I was very confident it was going to be one of us. Iwas shocked it was me, at the same time, I was not shocked."
The next segment was Prof. Yinka Egbokare speaking competition. Zik and Clinical Sciences emerged winners of their categories. The top 3 winners of the Prof Egbokare Essay competition include Aremu goodness, Omofala Samuel and Osuolale Oluwatomilola. A new patron was also decorated, Omotoso Gbenga.
The programme ended with the induction ceremony of the new campus journalists.
