QUEEN ELIZABETH II Hall Press Holds Her Maiden Symposium and Handover Ceremony

Queen Elizabeth II Hall Press organised her maiden symposium, Her Voice 1.0 alongside the hand over service today, 22nd November, 2025 themed “Her Story, Her Standard. Raising the bar for women in Journalism” which was held at the Junior Common Room (JCR), Queen Elizabeth II Hall.  

The programme featured a symposium, Panel Session, Handover Ceremony and the announcement of the essay winners. In attendance were the Kuti Hall Warden, Dr Babatunde Ojebuyi, President of Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan, UCJUI, Olashile Ogunrinu, Editor in Chief of UCJUI, Ayeye Tolulope, Miss Fatihah Quadri, Miss Kanyinsola Mahbubat, and Editors-in-Chief from Various Local Press Organizations.

The event began with the press prayer which was recited by Miss Babalola Blessing. Afterwards, the welcome address was taken by the Erstwhile Editor-in-Chief, Miss Oludare Olufunmilola. The keynote speech was given by Miss Caroline Opeyemi, followed by the panel session. 

The panel session, titled, The Pros and Cons of Women involvement in Nigeria Media Space. The session was moderated by Miss Sanni Juliet. The panelists shared their perspectives from the sphere of poetry, sports, journalism and broadcast media. They highlighted how women are in the best position to tell their stories while also emphasizing that women should embrace more daring roles and avoid imposing limitations on themselves. Thereafter, judges from the essay competition gave their views about the performance of the contestants while also offering tips on improvement. Therefore, the certificates were presented to the top five finalists of the essay competition with a plaque handed over to the winner of the competition, Olusoga Feyisara.

The handover ceremony then commenced, as the new executives were called forward and presented their handover letters by the previous executives that held the post. The new board of editors were announced. The new Editor-In-Chief, Miss Osuolale Oluwatomilayo was then asked to give her speech followed by her Deputy, Miss Sanni Juliet. The programme ended with the Press Prayer which was taken by the new general secretary, Miss Christopher Perculiar.
