Queen Elizabeth ll Hall Press Politics Editor, Osuolale Tomilayo Emerges 2nd Runner-up of Sunday Oguntola Essay Competition

On the 11th of October, 2025, the Politics and Entertainment Editor of Queen Elizabeth II Hall Press, Osuolale Oluwatomayo, emerged 2nd runner up of the Sunday Oguntola Essay Competition at the Union of Campus Journalists (UCJ), University of Ibadan 5-in-event. 

The event which was held at the First Bank Building, Faculty of Agriculture comprised of five major activities which are: Famous Five Awards, Global Campus Journalism Summit 2.0, Induction Ceremony, Magazine Launch and the Prof. Egbokhare Inter Press Debate Competition. 

The finalist for this year's fifth edition of the competition was announced by the UCJ President, Olanshile Ogunrinu in a press statement released by the union. After the shortlisted five were revealed, the top three were announced at the main event. Coming in third was Osuolale Oluwatomilayo from Queen Elizabeth II Hall Press, second was Omofala Samuel from Law Press and first place went to Aremu Goodness from Kuti hall press. In an interview with Miss Oluwatomilayo, she expressed her gratitude saying, “I’m so amazed. I didn't even know I'd be a part of the top three when I applied. I’m so grateful to God because without him, I'm nothing. My family, my friends, they are amazing!In a nutshell, I'm extremely happy.”

She also told the press how the process was not challenging due to her support system while encouraging people to seize opportunities like this.

On that, I’ll say it’s challenging but not too hard. literally everything could be easy if you work harder than what the challenge is. For me, I just had to put in the work and once again, thanks to my support system, it was easy. So the process isn’t one too challenging and I would encourage more people to take up the chance to write as much as they can,” she said.
