The letter which was addressed to the university community introduced the case of a certain individual popularly known as the passport man, usually seen in front of Tedder hall while going to Mellanby hall. According to the memo, it was reported that this certain “passport man” is known for his continuous and consistent harassment of female students by engaging them in inappropriate conversations, interrogating them about their sexual lives, bodies and creating a discomforting environment for them.
Following this, he was suspended from the hall for over a week pending further investigations. Subsequent to this, a joint meeting was held on the 16th of October where it was agreed that the man be dismissed from Tedder Hall.
“After careful deliberation, it was resolved in the best interest of the safety and dignity of female students that the said individual should be dismissed from Tedder Hall and advised to stay away from the university environment.”
The letter concluded with a plea urging students to speak up when they face any form of harassment, intimidation or discomfort, reassuring the students of their commitments to listening to their concerns while ensuring their safety and peace of mind.
