In an open letter addressed to the university management, the sportsmen and team captain of the University of Ibadan highlighted issues and concerns regarding sports facilities, participation and support.

On the 16th of August, 2025, the University’s Sportsmen and Sports Team Captain publicly sent out a letter drawing attention to the state and welfare of student-athletes in the institution. The concerns were conveyed in five points and they are;

Restricted Access to Sports Facilities.

Limitation on External Competition Participation.

Neglect on Interhall and Interfaculties competitions.

Limited Use and Accessibility of Sports Council Buses.

Unavailability of training equipment and lack of concerns regarding such.

They also urged the University management to put the sports levies paid by the students into good use. “It is important to note that all students of the University of Ibadan pay sports levy, so we ask and stand with all students to demand that the sports levies be put into good use for the benefits of all sports.”

The letter appealed to  the university management to act with immediate effect by ensuring access to sports facilities, allowing full participation of the university teams in external competitions, beginning with the NUGA Games in November 2025 and many more as they are committed to representing the institution with excellence.
