TLDS’UI Holds Press Conference, Discuss Key Events for Jaw War, 2025

On the 17th of May, 2025, The Literary and Debating Society (TLDS), University of Ibadan, held its Jaw War Conference at Infinix Resource Center, University of Ibadan.
In attendance were the President of the TLDS, Babatimileyin Peace, Public Relations Officer, Goodness Akinloye, General Secretary, Mayowa Adekola, Erstwhile UI’SU executives, senators from different literary constituencies and the Press.
The event which was scheduled for 11 AM commenced at about 12 PM. The PRO, Goodness Akinloye gave a welcome address and introduced the President to give the press statement. In the President’s statement, he spotlighted the influence of the TLDS and Jaw war in shaping the student body. Following that, he continued the press statement stating the plans for the upcoming Jaw war 2025.
He revealed the theme for Jaw war 2025, Africa in the 21st Century and Beyond. Rethinking Power, Progress and Possibility. He also disclosed that there would be an award for the Best Speakers, tagged, Engr Kayode Best Speaker awards. This award will be presented with a cash prize of N10, 000 and a commemorative plaque.
After that, he highlighted the timeline for Jaw war 2025. This timeline is as follows;
Press Conference and picking of the draws- 17th of May
Jaw war rally- 13th of September
First leg for Hall rounds- 16th of September
First leg for Faculty rounds- 18th of September
Second leg for Hall rounds- 19th of September
Second leg for Faculty rounds- 21st of September
Quarter Final-26th of September
Semi Final-30th of September
Final- 18th of October.
The Erstwhile President of TLDS, Ogonna Okere and UCJ President, Ogunrinu Olashile took over the Draw session. Ogonna Okere headed the session, addressing the gathering on the process of the draws while Olashile served as the umpire of the event. The names of halls and faculties were randomly picked from a bowl and topics were selected for each phase. The event came to an end at exactly 1:46 PM with the President giving a closing address.
