UI’SU Suspends Protest After MDCAN Calls off Strike

The University of Ibadan, Students’ Union (UI’SU), suspended a physical demonstration planned to take place tomorrow, Wednesday, 22nd of April 2025. This follows the official suspension of the strike action by the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN).

In a press release  jointly signed by the student union President and the General Secretary, the Union expressed deep gratitude to students for their patience and endurance throughout the prolonged strike action, which lasted over 120 days. They also acknowledged the emotional and academic toll the strike inflicted, while reaffirming their active involvement in addressing the issue through consistent engagement with stakeholders, media advocacy, and mobilization.

“All along, we were at the forefront of salvaging the situation,” the statement read, highlighting the Union’s efforts in ensuring the resumption of academic activities.

 The Union also commended the Medical Students’ Association and the Dental Students’ Association, as well as student representatives, for their cooperation during the impasse.

"While it may have taken longer than expected, we are glad that we are finally at the end," the statement read. UI'SU reaffirmed its commitment to representing and defending the interests of all students at the University of Ibadan.
