French Embassy Funds Organizes Clean Up Drive, Creates Awareness on Proper Plastic Disposal Amongst Students

French Embassy Funds on 25th March, 2025 held a plastic awareness program and campus clean up drive at the University of Ibadan, as a  part of its Plastic free campus initiative in 10 Nigerian universities.

The awareness program started at 9:12am with a welcome address from the head convener, Professor Adeogun Aina from the  department of Zoology. The event witnessed the attendance of staff and students in UI.  The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Olapegba was present at the exercise and he urged  volunteers to see environmental protection as a way of life and minimize the use of plastics. He encouraged them to  properly dispose of plastics. He further stated that students should inform their  friends on the effect of the use of plastic on the environment.


The clean up drive started at Trenchard hall to University first gate, where volunteers picked plastic and other related substances into polythene bags.   Student communities were also encouraged to properly dispose of plastics. Attendees marched back to Trenchard hall at 11am and pictures were taken. The head convener expressed her appreciation to the people present and encouraged them to be good ambassadors of their immediate environment. She also implored students to utilize the green containers for the proper disposal of plastic and nylons.
