University OF IBADAN STUDENTS’ UNION ADDRESS INCREASE IN TRANSPORTATION PRICE WITHIN CAMPUS.

On Friday, 13th of December, 2024 the prices in transportation within the university of Ibadan increased by 100%. This increase in transportation fare was due to the current increase in the price of petrol within the country at large.

In response to this increase, the University of Ibadan Students’ Union released a memorandum to the public, promising to address the issue while considering the financial constraints of students and the current price of petrol at the same time. 



The union made it known to the public that they had taken proactive measures regarding the transportation which specifically included the transportation committee carrying out experiment to analyze the fuel consumption and daily income of transport workers. The results of this experiment were presented at the Intra-Campus Transportation Committees meetings for review and negotiations of the transportation fare.


Based on this action, the reviewed transport fares to different places within the campus from the main gate have been released and they are as follows: 

-To places such as Queen Elizabeth II hall, Kuti; Mellanby; Tedder; Bello Hall, UI Bookshop, Catholic Church, and SUB, the transport fare have been fixed for 100 naira;


-Transport fare to places such as Benue road, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Agriculture, Independence and Nnamdi Azikwe hall, Chapel and Mosque have been fixed for 150 naira;


- Faculty of Technology, Law and Social Sciences, Botanical garden, Vet Junction, Awo, Idia,Abdusallam Hall, Palm77, Talent Hostel, UI Coop, Maintenance, Daimond FM, Staff school, ICC, second gate, and Abadina gate fixed for 200 naira;


- All residential areas, Awo stadium, Poly gate, Ajibode ( Cemetery Junction), DLC Sasa, PAULESI, Adebayo Akande Hall, Institute of Education, Bussiness School, IPPS, CPEEL, University of Ibadan Ajibode Extention for 300 naira;


-Car drop fixed for 600 naira;

- Tricycle drop for one passenger going to places where the price is 100 and 200 naira fixed for 300 and 500 naira respectively.


Students are advised to report any case of extortion made by transport workers to the House Secretary of the Union as such offense is punishable with commnensurate fine.
