Department of Theatre Arts holds Canticles for a Pyre Foretold for Convocation Ceremony

On the 15th of November, 2024, the Department of Theatre Arts performed Wole Soyinka’s "Canticles For A Pyre Foretold" for the 2024 Convocation Ceremony at the Wole Soyinka Theatre.




The performance, which started by 6 pm and ended by 8:30 pm was directed by Dr. Tunde Awosanmi.


The command performance, which was strictly by invitation, was attended by principal officers of the university. Professor K.O. Adebowale, the Vice-Chancellor; Prof P.O. Olapegba, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration); Prof. Aderonke M. Baiyeroju, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic); Mr. G.O. Saliu, the Registrar; Dr Mercy A. Iroaganachu, the University Librarian, Emeritus Professor Femi Osofisan, and the University Chairman of Ceremony were in attendance. 


At the end of the performance, the director, Dr. Tunde Awosanmi noted that the performance was a premiere of the latest work of Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka.


In his speech, Professor K.O. Adebowale appreciated the entire department of Theatre Arts, especially the cast and crew, for their work of excellence. He mentioned that the performance was one filled with "education, entertainment and information."


This is the Command Performance of the play for the Convocation week as the performance will continue until the 19th of November 2024. The director also announced that there will be one that will have the prominent attendance of the playwright himself, Wole Soyinka.
