On the 28th of November, 2024, the most anticipated debating event in the University of Ibadan, Nigeria begun with different halls of residence debating their way to victory to qualify for the next round of events.

The event although a remarkable and fun one evoked unexpected reaction. Alexander Brown hall, who debated against Obafemi Awolowo hall, was presented with a result of defeat.

Today, the 28th of November, 2024, the literary and debating society of Alexander Brown hall, Faculty of clinical sciences and Faculty of Dentistry circulated a very clear memorandum concerning their displeasure in the turn of events, the result of their hard work, the ineffectiveness of the time keeper in his inaccurate timing.

They said that “We are aware that past TLDS presidents have cited article 5 section 8 of the TLDS constitution to beguile constituencies as defence for 2a above. That section actually says “the decision of the judges shall be final and cannot be reviewed”.” but they still wish to look through the final results especially considering how much time, efforts and resources speakers have to invest into this competition.

They concluded with their decision to withdraw from Jaw war saying “all our constituencies_ ABH, Clinical sciences and Dentistry_ after having duly considered all factors have decided to pull out of this edition and future editions of Jaw War”.

They stated that they are aware that this might be “unsportmanlike” but their decision remains unwavering and are uninterested in any meeting regarding

 this decision.
