Faction of the SRC Opposes the Postponement of the Congress

The University of Ibadan students’ Union postponed the Congress slated for Saturday 29th of June 2024 in SUB foyer due to unforeseen circumstances. This was communicated in a press release signed by the UISU president, Aweda Bolaji and the General Secretary, Ogundijo Dolapo.  The congress which was to hold had an agenda to address issues concerning the state of increment in school fees with any other business pertaining to the student community. The new date for the congress was said to be communicated later.

In a press release by a faction of the Student Representative Council (SRC) named Egbe Majeobaje on Thursday, 27th June 2024 called on the principal officers of the Union and the Speaker to refrain from absconding from the Congress, as their primary commitment is to the students of the University of Ibadan and not any other frivolities. It also claimed that it was imperative to do that because it 'lacks faith in the apparatus to which the duty of sensitisation of students and mobilization for the congress was entrusted'.

Reserving their right as stated in Article XIII, section 3 of the University of Ibadan Students' Union Constitution and as stated in Article XIII, section 1 of the Constitution, they 'rejected every attempt to sabotage the Congress of Students scheduled for Saturday, 29th of June 2024'.
