A TRIBE CALLED JUDAH

     

Nigeria is making waves in terms of entertainment and we are yet to see it all. The way actors and actresses are hitting it big with their movies is amazing. This new year 2024 many Nollywood movies from different stars will be released globally, indeed we are in the year of no gree for anybody. Nollywood stars don't want to gree again as they are shaking the world with their creativity, showing the world that they haven't seen anything yet. 

"Jagunjagun" is one of the Nollywood movies that hit big and broke records. Another big-time record breaker is here titled 'A tribe called Judah" written and produced by one of the biggest stars in Nollywood's entertainment industry, Funke Akindele.

A Tribe Called Judah was released in cinemas on the 15th of December, 2023. It is the first Nollywood movie to gross over 113 million naira in its opening weekend as if that wasn't enough the movie earned 1 billion naira three weeks after it was released, becoming the first Nollywood movie to surpass 1 billion naira at the box office. This feat has surpassed Funke Akindele's previous movie 'Battle on Buka Street'(#668.4m) which is the second highest-grossing film at the Nigerian Box office. If the movie can hit this big just in the cinema who can tell what awaits it and why released globally?

The movie features diverse actors and actresses from various ethnic backgrounds Jide Kene Achufusi, Boma Akpore, Paschaline Alex, Timini Egbuson, Olumide Oworu, Uzor Arukwe, Fathia Balogun, Etinosa Idemudia and many others.

According to Funke Akindele, A tribe called Judah was inspired by her late mother, to whom she also dedicated the movie. The movie tells the story of a single mother (Jedidah Judah) who has five sons, each with different fathers, she is very hard-working and tries her best for her children.

Two of her children worked in the same mall (one works as a salesman while the other works as a security guard. Jedidiah Judah later got sick with CKD and needed money to do transplant but due to their financial hardship they were unable to raise the money so her children decided to plot against the owner of the mall where two out of them work. They plotted the scheme well and set out to carry out their mission but things did not go as planned because other robbers came to rib the mall as well and the mall was turned into a battlefield as they started firing shots at one another and along the line some were killed and some were injured.

The most painful part is the death of Emeka (the eldest) because he was at first against the plan but for the sake of the situation of their mother he had to give in to the plan, He was shot by one of the robbers and it was a great surprise to find out that the person that led the robbery was the Manager of the mall.

Although the remaining brothers were able to leave with a large sum of money the death of their brother affected them and they had to abscond with their mother because they were declared wanted.

We were unable to know if Jedidah Judah later got the transplant and if she was able to survive it. A tribe called Judah is a good watch and lessons could be gathered from the movie that no matter what a man does, he will surely reap the fruit of his labour and also about how the life of a greedy person and one who gathers wealth through illegal means does not always end well.
