New Year Project: Queen Elizabeth ll Hall begins renovation of sanitary facilities
Shortly before the end of the just concluded semester, new water closets were placed in the hall premises. Much later, pipes and taps were added. There were various speculations as regards the purpose for which the new water closets and taps were put in the hall. Apparently, they were there for the renovation project.
Following
the purchase in the hall of residence, last year December, there has been
non-stop plumbing work, replacement of water closets, and fixing of modern taps
in the bathrooms. The plumbing work and renovation in general has commenced in
Block A, B, and C and earnest effort is being made to make sure the other
blocks are renovated as soon as possible.
Speaking
with Miss Ande Dooshima, the hall chairperson, she expressed her excitement and
stated that “Sequel to the celebrated 75th Anniversary of the University of
Ibadan, Ibadan, it is believed that the School Management agreed with Wardens
to renovate the halls in terms of the toilets and bathrooms. The wardens
ensured to follow up on this project and other factors played significant roles
in hastening the progress of the work such as the Council of the Hall
Chairpersons and the University of Ibadan Students' Union Executives.” Drawing
inference from Hall Chairperson’s statement, the renovation is not only
happening in Queen Elizabeth ll hall, other Halls are also having their fair
share of the project.
The
evidence of the renovation lies in every place in the hall. Broken and old
cistern bowls, pipes and taps, irons, and metals of different kinds. Although
the hall had gone through a series of renovations, such as minor plumbing work
in the past, this particular project is considerably larger.
