LET US NOT REPLACE ALL OUR SKIRTS WITH TROUSERS

Picking an outfit for class one beautiful morning became a hassle as it dawned on me that the only skirt I have is the one I wear casually. This made me realise how much ladies prefer trousers to skirts nowadays. Right, trousers are classy, easy to wear, and also comfortable. This however does not rule out the elegance skirts add to the female look. No doubt, skirts give the classic, elegant, sophisticated look if that is the aim. All that is needed is to pick the right skirt for the right occasion. Check out these skirt styles.

Tennis skirt

Although tennis skirts were designed to maximize comfort and flexibility while engaging in sport, they can also be worn casually.  A tennis skirt can make you look super fun and flirty. Pair it with a top or T-shirt and the result is as chic as wearing a short dress. Complement the look with a small, sleek handbag and either loafers or simple sneakers to keep that posh vibe going. You can also accessorize with a simple bracelet to keep things light and easy.

Pleated skirt

A pleated skirt is a garment with vertical creases in the fabric (called pleats) that add body to the shape of the skirt. Pleats are permanent folds in clothes made by doubling the material over and ironing or sewing the fold into place to create a long-lasting crease.

Many kinds of pleated skirts exist including sunray pleats, box pleats, knife pleats, and so on. A sunray-pleated skirt makes very thin pleats that develop into a flowing garment, while a box-pleated skirt only has a few broad pleats across the garment.

For a casual outfit, style your pleated skirt with a T-shirt, tuck the ends of a loose T-shirt into your skirt, or wear a cropped top that drops just above the waistline of your skirt. Finish this look with a pair of white sneakers and a denim jacket. For an evening or formal look, style a fitted, lace top with a pleated midi skirt for an elegant date night look. Complement it with a pair of heels.

Denim / Jean skirt

There is no denying that denim is timeless. A jean skirt worn appropriately will keep every eye on you. It is easy to make a fashion statement with denim. Your jean or denim can be as a mini, midi, or maxi skirt. Pair it with a matching top; add a pair of boots, sneakers or heels and you are good to go.

Maxi skirt

“When it comes to skirts, I don’t have a middle ground. Either it’s a mini or very long,” said Carolina Castiglioni. We all have different tastes and body shapes and so, it is important to choose what goes well with them. The maxi skirt is perhaps the most comfortable, flattering, and versatile piece of women's clothing.

For a casual look, wear a block colour top on a floral maxi skirt. Complement it with a pair of sneakers. For a formal look, wear a chiffon or silk blouse on a maxi skirt. Tuck in the blouse and complement it with a matching pair of shoes and heels.

- Do not show too much skin when you're wearing a maxi skirt.
