The breasts are vital organs in the life of a lady which play an essential role in portraying or highlighting feminine attraction and in nursing a child later in life. These organs contain three main tissues: the glandular tissue, which houses the milk ducts; the connective tissue, which holds the breast in place; and the fatty tissue, which is responsible for its shape and size.
Breasts come in different sizes and shapes, particular to each individual depending on factors such as genes, weight, hormonal changes (especially during menstruation), age, and exercise.
The shape of the breast depends on where the breast holds the bulk of its tissues on the chest and where the nipple is located.
Different Types of Breasts According to Shape
Asymmetric: This is a type of breast where the breasts are of different sizes or shapes.
The Archetype:The most common shape which is round and full with a small nipple at the center.
The Athletic: This type appears more muscular and wider with less fat.
The Bell: This is common with people who have larger breasts. It is characterized by a narrow top and a fuller bottom.
The Teardrop: This shape is similar to the bell shape but is rounder and only slightly fuller at the bottom than at the top.
Conical: This shape is common in people with smaller breasts. The tops of the breasts slope down toward the nipples, pointing outward.
East-West: This type is full both at the top and bottom, with the nipples facing opposite directions away from the body’s midline.
Based on the Position of the Breasts:
Side-set breasts: Similar to the East-West breast but with the nipples drawn more away from the middle of the chest.
Close-set: These are the types that have little or no space in between them, making them sit in the center of the chest.
Keeping the breasts healthy is essential in reducing the risk of developing chronic disorders of the breast and is also vital in the early detection of diseases that may progress later. Caring for the breast also helps reduce back and neck pain that may arise from the use of a poorly fitting bra and ensures comfort.
Simple Ways to Keep the Breasts Healthy:
Self-Examination: Whether it is in the bathroom, before the mirror, or even while lying down, examine the armpit and breast area with the three middle fingers for any changes or swelling.
Getting the Right Bra Size: At different stages in life, the size of the breasts changes; hence, it is important to measure the breast regularly to get a comfortable and breathable bra. Consider changing your bra when it’s worn out or no longer comfortable. Also, ensure to go braless when resting at home.
Minding Your Posture: Standing and sitting upright reduces the strain on the breast.
Clinical Checkup: Going for a clinical checkup will also help detect changes in the breast and provide appropriate counseling.
Good Skin Care: The skin under the breast is one of the most sensitive areas in the body. Keeping it clean with a moisturizing soap, and daily use of a rich moisturizer, as well as applying sunscreen to areas exposed to the sun, helps to protect the breast. It is also necessary to wash bras after two to three wears to remove dirt, bacteria, and body oil.
Also, pay attention to regular exercise and consume foods rich in antioxidants and folic acid, like fruits and leafy vegetables, as this helps to inhibit cancer cell growth.
