Health Is wealth. The state of one's health isn't only determined by the physical, mental health but the skin, which is the largest organ in the body. However the skin is greatly overlooked by a lot.  The skin condition of a person differs from that of another, but one thing is constant, habits. The state of the skin does not mainly depend on the products used, although it's an important factor. Skin condition also depends on the habits, the diet, and general well-being, on the inside.

Skincare products are highly essential in maintaining a good and healthy skin, but going about it the wrong way deters it from fully meeting its set goals. Wrong products may also cause more harm than good to the skin. Consulting with a dermatologist is key when selecting products.  This helps understand the skin type and condition, selecting the best products to use according to the skin condition and type.

Healthy skincare habits should be picked up by everyone, as it is important to adopt good habits so as to put together a routine that works best for everyone. Having a healthy diet is also important because it does it from the inside out. What we eat forms us.

Here are some healthy habits that aids the achievement of a Healthy skin:

  • Touching the face and popping pimples:  This is a common one. This habit really causes a lot of germs, bacteria picked from surfaces to be transferred to the face. The bacteria affects the face and may cause breakouts.

Putting the phone on the cheek during phone calls also transfers bacteria to the face. To limit this habit, refrain from touching the face except during application of products.

  • Not changing bedsheets and pillowcases early: As students, it gets difficult to change pillowcases and sheets sometimes because of the stress of washing. This is a habit that should be dropped because the beddings store oil, sweat and other substances which will be transferred unto the skin. Beddings should be changed as often as possible.

  • Using the same towel for face and body:  The same towel shouldn't be used for the face, because the face is very sensitive and could get affected easily, resulting in breakouts and eczema, etc.

  • Eating junks, oily food: Diet has a huge impact on the state of the skin. Eating healthy, including fruits and vegetables, and drinking water.

  • DIYs without research: There are some food based skin care that is commonly used now due to influence of Social media and inexperienced individuals. The use of tomato, onions, ginger, lime and all sorts on the face sometimes cause more harm than good. If food based skincare is to be used, it should be recommended by a dermatologist, according to the skin condition.

Healthy skincare habits are not difficult to develop, it just takes more discipline to stand by. When the skin isn't well taken care of, it may lead to internal damages and problems.  It is important to note that food intake and diet generally affects the skin and may be responsible for some common skin diseases.  Adopting healthy skin habits, using the right products, consultations and eating healthy ultimately helps maintain the skin.
