Variety Night leaves Organizers, Queenites and Brands in a Fix
Following the announcement of the Hall week lineup of events, a novel event, the block party was added to the variety night. The block party which was scheduled to hold as a part of the variety night was sponsored by various brands with Hypeman Twinkle, DJ Grandy amongst others scheduled to perform at the event. However, they were all left with no other choice than to excuse Queenites after an alleged misunderstanding.
As reported, three artists had already performed before the event was abruptly brought to a close, and attendees were asked to vacate the premises immediately.
The sudden cancellation of the event had cost implications for the brands that had traveled from Lagos, leaving them with significant losses. Although some of the pre planned events did take place, the variety night had to pull to a close at 9:00pm as it had always been in the previous years.
A source who pleaded anonymity told the Press of how some of the brands took their products to Idia cultural night because they couldn't take them back to the company as they risked being sanctioned. She further stated that the situation could have been avoided if there had not been a miscommunication from one of the executives whose name was not revealed.
She said,
“I tried begging but they didn’t give me listening ears. Millions were spent just for Queenites to have a good time.
Furthermore, queenites revealed that all invited artistes were in attendance, but unfortunately, they were denied entry.
A few residents had also spotted the presence of Abefele in the Hall Premises during the whole commotion. A lot of residents expressed their displeasure in watching all the plans fall through. According to a G-blockite,
“l had high expectations but i won’t say the Social Minister didn’t try her best because i think she did”
Sequel to an outburst on the Queen Elizabeth ll Hall group chat about the Press' release on the cancellation of the block party, group members mentioned that Queenites didn't cancel on their own but, due to circumstances beyond their control.
To clarify, the Press' effort to reach out to Queenites have not yielded much, many were unresponsive, with some refusing to make any comment and some others requesting anonymity, unwilling to have their responses published.
