Days and Dreams; Lights and Paths
By Oludare Olufunmilola
Every Day, a Dream
Every day, my dream, your dream, our dream
So many dreams waiting to blaze, yet still dim.
The rays of light, scattered, do not touch every path,
Too many paths, too many lights shining apart.
You only live once, all bends to fate’s whim.
Do not just walk or crawl but fly and live to the brim.
One choice, one step every day but stay alert.
Look before you leap but leap anyway; don’t avert.
It’s hard, it’s cold, this earth we tread,
But within you lies greatness because you are Him.
In love, in fault, in scars, you swim,
Unshaken by the waves, you rise instead.
Each day, another chance to impact,
To traverse deserts, cross rivers, and stay intact.
You may slip, stumble, or jog,
You may cry, scream, or hit the gym.
Oh, what a lenient Creator, to all, He gave free will.
Life’s wrong turns don’t define you, so don’t be still.
Will it be on your terms; you need not be an expert.
Dare to shine; the odds are never too slim.
The world is waiting to see your inner light gleam.
Yes, this is Nigeria, it tests, it weakens,
But hold on! Just insert
Your beautiful dreams: it is not the end.
It is but a beautiful beginning
