TLDS’ UI Responds to ABH’s Withdrawal from Jaw War
The Literary and Debating Society, University of Ibadan, has issued an official response following the withdrawal of the Alexander Brown Hall (ABH) constituency from Jaw War: Rise of Legends on Thursday, 28 November, 2024. In an open letter from ABH, this decision is a result of their dissatisfaction with judging processes and their grievances regarding time-keeping during the competition.
In the statement, TLDS’ UI emphasized the integrity of the judges and that their selection process was a transparent one.
Addressing demands to release score sheets, the society also expressed its concerns about protecting the competition’s sanctity and avoiding any threats against judges.
TLDS, UI dismissed allegations against the timekeeper during Tuesday’s hall category rounds as unfounded and criticized the informal lodging of grievances by ABH representatives. The society noted that it has a conventional policy for lodging complaints and is displeased with the route in which ABH took to make their grievances known.
The society reaffirms its commitment to all constituencies and urges ABH to reconsider its decision.
While expressing commitment to fairness, TLDS’ UI clarified that the failure of the Faculty of Dentistry and Clinical Sciences to present at the competition would come with consequences for these constituencies and Alexander Brown Hall.
In conclusion, The Literary and Debating Society encouraged participants to maintain the spirit of sportsmanship as they are also committed to ensuring fair competition among all.
