On August 29, 2024, the University of Ibadan Governing Council released a memorandum, after the inaugural meeting held, concerning the reviewed schedule of levies for newly admitted and returning undergraduate students.

The Governing Council approved the increment in school fees and has fixed a deadline for payment. According to the signed memorandum, the Governing Council stated that every student is to ensure payment has been made on or before the 4th of September, 2024 to be eligible for the end of semester’s examination.

“Consequently, students who are yet to pay and complete their registration exercises are advised to do so, on or before Wednesday, 04 September 2024, to enable departments to download the list of registered students, in preparation for the First Semester Examination,” as said in the memorandum.

The council stated that this review was completely necessary because of the current economic situation and the university’s commitment to ensuring quality teaching and research.

The council urged that students be encouraged to take advantage of the students’ loan fund (NELFUND) and sundry scholarships instituted by the University and other well-meaning philanthropists, to cater for indigent students.

“Above is for strict adherence as the portal will not be opened after the deadline,” the statement concluded.

Although, after the protest held by UI’SU, it was stated that the deadline for fee payment was suspended and that every student should remain calm. This decision was reached by both the student union and the school management.
