On August 12, 2024, the Sigma Club at the University of Ibadan held a Digital Detox Walk to raise awareness about drug abuse and promote healthier lifestyles among students. The walk began at 10:18 a.m. and featured a live band performance and photographs at the Student Union Building (SUB) car park.

Sigma Chief, Olalekan Michael Ajibola emphasised the event's importance in his opening speech. “Drug abuse is a major problem in the society and curbing it is the reason for the walk today,” Ajibola said. He highlighted that the event would discuss the dangers of drug abuse and present ways to combat it.

Participants, including many students, moved in groups across campus, distributing informational flyers about drug abuse and available resources. The outreach covered all student Halls of Residence and key areas of the university.

Oladimeji Abdulmuyeez, Sigma’s M&D, spoke at Sultan Bello Hall, urging students to engage in the fight against drug abuse. “We want to encourage and admonish you to stand up, speak up on your issues and actively fight against drug abuse,” Abdulmuyeez said. He encouraged students to seek help through digital resources or reach out to the Sigma office.

Sigma Chief, Olalekan Michael Ajibola concluded the event with a message: “Quit drinking, train your mind, and leave the drugs behind. Get online counselling to prevent drug abuse. We are here to provide easy access to therapy and reduce substance misuse. Thank you.”
