“STRIVE FOR EXCELLENCE ACADEMICALLY AND TRUST IN GOD TO GUIDE YOU”- AN INTERVIEW WITH THE QUEEN ELIZABETH II HALL CHAIRPERSON

On Tuesday, July 9th, 2024, the Queen Elizabeth II Hall press interviewed the hall chairperson regarding her experience thus far upon assuming office and what Queenites should expect in this session.

QEHP: Can you introduce yourself?

Mojoyin: My name is Mojoyinoluwa Kofoworola Agbonde. I am a 500 Level Law student at the University of Ibadan. I am driven by the pursuit of balance and strive to excel in every aspect of my life. Volunteering is a significant part of who I am, and currently, I serve my community as the Hall Chairperson of Queen Elizabeth II Hall, University of Ibadan.

QEHP: How has the semester been so far regarding hall activities?

Mojoyin: The main activity has been student registration, especially since we are still in the early weeks of the semester. It hasn't been without its stress, but overall, I'm grateful that phase is almost over.

QEHP: Was there any spillover of unresolved issues from the last administration into yours? And how did you handle them?

Mojoyin: I prefer not to refer to them as issues, but the only unresolved matter from the last administration involves uncollected packages and shirts. Setting a deadline, which is tomorrow, July 10th, for the collection of packages has been very effective.

QEHP: Is there anything different you would like to do in your administration?

Mojoyin: To be candid, I don't think there is anything new under the sun. However, one thing my team and I will do is build upon the existing structures from the previous administration. Queenites should expect improvements in the current system.

QEHP: What do Queenites have to look forward to in terms of extra-curricular activities this session?

Mojoyin: They should anticipate the Freshers' Orientation on July 20th, 2024, which is the first event of the session. There will also be a Freshers' Ludo Tournament sponsored by a former executive, Grace Ọjọ, aimed at demonstrating that sports can be flexible and enjoyable. Queenites should also look forward to virtual events and, of course, the grand finale which will be Hall Week in the second semester.

QEHP: How has the new academic calendar impacted your administration?

Mojoyin: I'm pleased that my team and I have experienced this new calendar. It has created a greater sense of urgency, time management, and balance for us. There has been no negative impact.

QEHP: How do you intend to get Queenites to follow the numerous rules and regulations in the hall?

Mojoyin: I appreciate the floor and blockhead representative systems, as well as the presence of executives on principal blocks. These individuals will continue to remind Queenites of the rules. Additionally, our hands-on porters also play a crucial role in reinforcing these rules. I intend to leverage these resources to emphasize compliance.

QEHP: How has working with other executives and the hall management been?

Mojoyin: It has been wonderful. They have significantly influenced the success of the registration process. There is an effective delegation of responsibilities and portfolios from the Wardens to the executives, and the results are evident. I would like to commend the Hall Mistress, the Wardens, and the Executives for their excellent work.

QEHP: Do you have any messages for Queenites?

Mojoyin: Your academics should be your priority. Strive for excellence academically and trust in God to guide you, as He is the source of excellence. Consider listening to academic podcasts like The Supernatural Student on Spotify. Additionally, if you face challenges with difficult courses, feel free to reach out to the Vice-Hall Chairperson for academic assistance.

QEHP: Thank you for your time.
