The Literary and Debating Society Holds its First Senate Meeting

The Literary and Debating Society of the University of Ibadan held its first meeting on 28 June, 2024 in the Student Affairs Conference Room. The meeting commenced with the introduction of senators alongside their constituency and continued with the ratification of the literary head of the society as Mr Muiz Opeyemi Àjàyí emerged as the literary head for the 2023/2024 session.


The by-election for the post of the Treasurer started at 5:35pm with aspirants from three different constituencies; Afonja Comfort from Idia, Gbolahun Agbaje from Nnamdi Azikiwe and Abraham Ajisafe from Alexander Brown Hall. After the presentation of their manifestos, questions were asked by the senators. The voting commenced at 6:14pm with a total of 25 votes. Gbolahun Agbaje, from Nnamdi Azikiwe constituency, had a total of 1 vote, while Afonja Comfort had a total of 16 votes and Abraham Ajisafe had a total of 8 votes, with the winner, Afonja Comfort, from Queen Idia constituency, emerging as the Treasurer for the society.

The meeting ended around 6:30pm with a closing remark from the TLDS president, Okere Ogonna.
