A REVIEW OF THE PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER, ANITA DORSU'S MANIFESTO.
The Office of the Public Relations Officer is known for the basic purpose of creating awareness and projecting the hall's image. It also involves effective communication with the members of the hall and the public. Anita Dorsu's (popularly known as Anita Babs) plans are in line with this, though it encompasses other plans which include unity and inclusiveness. These plans all fit into the scope of public relations, though the PRO cited new strategies to carry them out. The accomplishments and possible lapses in the Public Relations Officer's plans will be looked into and analysed.
The first plan in her manifesto is Awareness. The PRO promised to create a committee of all
influencers in the Hall to ensure Queenites get information at their
fingertips. A call for influencers was made on the Queens Hall WhatsApp
platforms. However, the creation of a committee is not pertinent to the fulfilment
of the goal because the committee created was not put into significant use by
the Public Relations Officer, as its impact on Queenites was minimal. Some
Queenites mentioned that they were not aware of any influencer committee.
The sub-plan of Sending/Reading News
Headlines was well executed by the PRO and her publicity committee. News
headlines were sent to all Queens Hall platforms for Queenites to have
knowledge of the happenings within Nigeria. It is quite commendable that this
plan was able to achieve its end goal because Queenites didn’t need to grab a
newspaper to know the recent happenings in the country. The headlines, however,
became inconsistent at some point in the session.
The PRO also promised to paste tips
for effective networking and relation on the boards. She carried this out a few
times but did not keep up with the plan. In an interview, Miss Anita
mentioned that her ability to keep up with some of her plans were a result of handling graphics and content for
other executives. Even though there was a committee, the PRO still
could not do much about this plan. The efforts put into the times the tips were
sent out are quite commendable.
INCLUSIVENESS.
Under this plan, two major sub-plans
were promised by the PRO. The first is Collaboration to celebrate literary
masterpieces by trending the best literary work made to the Literary and
Debating society. The execution of this plan was not direct because the PRO did
not directly trend the literary works of Queenites, but she supported the
achievements of Queenites for the Hall by trending on the Hall's Instagram
page. The manner by which Miss Anita Dorsu intended to execute this plan was not stated clearly in her Manifesto; hence, it is difficult to say how
much she achieved this plan.
Another Manifesto promise made by
the PRO under the Inclusiveness plan is the celebration of the entrepreneur of
the month, birthdays, and creative of the month. This promise has been met with
half-fulfillment by the Public Relations Officer as birthdays were celebrated
only a few times and the creatives were showcased on the Instagram page. For
the entrepreneur of the month, there was no sign of fulfilment of that promise. The Public Relations Officer stated when contacted, that the promise
was left unfulfilled because of the ban on sales in the Hall. As there was already a ban when she wrote her manifesto, it is disappointing to see that she did not account for this.
UNITY
Under this, the PRO promised to
create at least a group for Queenites staying off-campus to Foster unity and
awareness of the happenings or events in the hall. This plan was well executed
by the PRO at the beginning of the session by the creation of an Off-campus
Group.
PORTRAYAL
The last plan in the PRO's manifesto
is the Portrayal. Miss Anita promised to increase the social media presence of
the hall by adopting social media trends and engaging followers of our social
media accounts. This plan is more like a pivotal role because it is expected of
the PRO to portray the hall by boosting the social media presence. During the
session, the Queens Hall Instagram page presence was active with the adoption
of social media trends, such as "Of course, I'm a Queenite", International
Women's Day content, matriculation flashbacks, and a Dance challenge by the
Vice Hall chairperson and Sports Director. The social media pages were also
used during the time for the Miss Queens and Miss Heritage online contests.
The Public Relations Officer was
able to organize some events that were not part of her manifesto, which included
the Girl Child Conference and the Social Media Workshop. This is quite
commendable because Miss Anita was able to do these alongside carrying out her
duties as the PRO. Miss Anita did not let her manifesto limit her performance
of other activities and events she had envisioned for Queenites.
In conclusion, while a number of Miss Anita's plans were not completely executed or they stopped some time in the middle of the session, she was also able to put together events that were not a part of the promises made to Queenites.
