the coming of age

By Àkànó A'ishat Aderonke

life isn't changing

what I have to write today

isn't different from that of yesterday

at sixteen

I thought it would be sweet

I had hopes & dreams

“let's see what the future holds”, I said

at eighteen

I've now gone into the world

seen stars, moon and different planets

can now distinguish a kiss from a bite

had smiles and a bag of dreams still

at nineteen

now rejected at home

fake Smile now glued to the face

couldn't keep up with the race

the world we are in didn't help either

very soon... Very confused

I can only pray. Pray to hope; hope to pray

try to experience; experience to change.
