Controversies on Breakfast
Breakfast is the first meal of the day. It is the first meal after a stretch of not eating overnight. A lot believe that breakfast is a very important meal of the day, while some believe it is good but not as compulsory as we think it is because of some reasons. “Breakfast may or may not be the most important meal of the day, but it is certainly an important meal to investigate further.” (Betts et al, Proceedings of the Nutrition Society, 2016).
Some
revealed that
breakfast gives the body the necessary strength it needs to start the day. Research revealed that those who take breakfast are more
energetic when they start the day and they are healthier than those who do not.
Some other researchers
agreed with the fact that it gives energy but they do not with the
side that they are healthier. They based their argument on the fact that the
first researchers only performed
observational research. They also said it doesn’t matter if you do not have breakfast, as much as you take a balanced diet in other meals of the day.
Others believe that eating breakfast helps to
concentrate more during the day. They also added that those who take breakfast
have better
results
when compared
to those who
don’t. Some other people do not believe this. They believe that though
breakfast might help but ability to concentrate does not depend totally on
breakfast. They believe that it depends on the ability of the person in
question to concentrate.
Some
others
believe that eating
breakfast reduces the risk of obesity. These researchers assessed the diet
techniques of successful dieters and discovered that they take in low calories,
exercise every day,
and according to Wing and Phelan, American Journal of Clinical Nutrition,
2005, 78% of them eat breakfast every day. Some others depict that eating breakfast helps to minimize
the intake of junk.
On the other hand, some other researchers said taking breakfast does not
necessarily reduce weight, they mentioned the first researchers only noted the co-occur of
breakfast and not that it reduces weight.
There
are a lot more controversies concerning breakfast which makes one confused about which to follow. However, it is important to note
that none
of these controversies has mentioned that taking breakfast is dangerous, so, it is better to take
breakfast in other to be on the
safe side. It might not be the most important food of the day, but it is very
important to have
breakfast after spending so much energy on sleeping.
