Duties, Obligations and Promises: A Review of the Financial Secretary's Manifesto

By Goodness Omodele.

Musa Precious Olamide, a 300 level student of the Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries Management, and the outgoing Financial Secretary of Queen Elizabeth II Hall, listed the duties of the financial secretary in her manifesto under Article 11 Section V.

She also revealed the two plans she had for Queenites which she promised to implement if she emerged as the financial secretary.

First, she promised to create a financial library where Queenites would 'borrow books from at a small amount of money, to read.' According to her manifesto, the library would be available both online and onsite with a book dropped on the Queens Hall Whatsapp platform every month to be read and reviewed. This sounded like a great plan and would have been a significant achievement of her tenure if it had been implemented. However, Queenites saw neither the physical library nor the e-library.

Her second plan was to organize a financial seminar during the Hall Week. This seminar was to educate Queenites on the management of finances and sustainability of self as students. She mentioned that she would work alongside the Vice-Hall Chairperson and Social director to make that plan a reality; however, just like the first plan, this plan was unexecuted.  Miss Musa might have decided to just focus on her constitutional duties but it bemoans her character that her promises went unfulfilled and no explanation was tendered to the residents of Queen Elizabeth II Hall who had voted her in with the hope of having something new. So, what legacy has Miss Musa left for the incoming Financial Secretary? And to what purpose was her decision to run for the position of Financial Secretary?
