What is your take on high/inflated prices of goods in Queen’s Hall?

It is no more a new information that the prices of goods being sold in the hostel are questionable. A lot of people have things to express and below are the opinions of some Queenites.

Demilade: The increase in prices of goods in Queens is actually unnecessary. We are students, our income is not increasing in any way, and our parents give the same allowances. Now the prices of things are going up, it makes it difficult to live our lives as students, to “enjoy the life of our head." For me personally, it has stopped me from buying stuffs. My take is that everybody should keep their price down to the bearable minimum for students. We all use kerosene in Queens Hall and it’s just unnecessarily expensive. And because of the fact that they know that we will not have a chance to go outside to buy it, they now added extra charges, like what?!!! It’s actually unnecessary.

Tofunmi: The price of things at the buttery is not fair at all; not everything actually, but most of the things they sell there. It’s like they think because we are students, we have money coming in for us from different angles. They should consider students that are only trying to manage themselves.

Iyanuoluwa: I think it is those sellers; they are the ones adding prices to it. Go to Bodija for example; if I buy rice in Bodija, I buy it at the cost of 120 naira per cup. And here in Queens, they sell it for #150 per cup, so you see. They can still sell it for #130 and #135 at most but they really increase the price. Things are not that costly like that. Students are looking for other means. That is why you see people selling on campus. But now, there is a ban. People are not free to sell anything again. So the best thing is just to go to Bodija or anywhere outside the school to get what we want instead of staying here and paying those people expensive prices.

Ayokunumi: I don't really buy things in the hostel, but once in a while that I go there to get some things; I feel we are being cheated on. One thing I feel we can do is to place a price tag on some stuff. Like the thing the SU did, that a particular product can't be sold for more than a stipulated price.

Alimat: Looking at the situation in Nigeria, it’s actually very bad. For them to increase their prices is understandable but at the same time, we are students. Even if they want to increase it, maybe like the general price of Nigeria has increased by 50%, maybe for students, they should increase the price maybe to like 25% and not the total 50%. At the end of the day, they will still sell because students need what they are selling.

Jennifer: It is expensive ooo, omorhh. They should stop. We are students for crying out loud. Especially kerosene, the price can strangle you.

Oyindamola: I don’t like it and it’s not necessary. We are students and they are supposed to pity us. Yes! I feel the cash scarcity caused all these. Some are using the opportunity to increase the prices of their goods and some, well … they are getting goods outside the school at very expensive costs so they have to sell them like that, at least for them to gain some profit.

Fiyin: It’s not good now. Brush that are supposed to be #150, they are #300 in Queens, why? A bag of pure water that is supposed to be # 180 is # 250 in Queens, why? I feel they should slash the prices. It’s too much! It’s not as if we are working. We are not working. Our parents are not increasing our allowance. They should pity us now.
