UISU elections: Queen Elizabeth II Hall little Jesuses and the hustle for a room in Kunle Adepoju's building
In
UI, there is no better time to test the strength of the halls of residence than
during the SU elections. This has usually been the time we separate the adults
from the boarders. It has become a tradition that certain halls would carry the
elections and install their favourites in power. In several of the previous
administrations, we have seen some halls secure multiple seats without fail.
While some of these halls are enjoying relevance and further entrenchment of
influence, we have Queen Elizabeth II Hall who has been off the radar for a
long time.
When
it is time for politics, Queen Elizabeth II hall fades off like she does not
exist. This was one of the things the current Hall ChairPerson, Ajayi
Toluwanimi Elizabeth in a previous interview said she hopes to work on. She
might have succeeded in her mission of political awakening due to recent
developments that have brought one or two interested aspirants but is it
possible that the delectable Queen Elizabeth II hall will succeed in her
present political ventures or would we be the new generation Nazareth?
It
is not a shade to say that Queen Elizabeth II hall has no political structure
and in this game of experience politics and alliances, how the hall would fare
is a source of concern. The hall can almost not run against her fellow female
halls and win, her backseat posture has caused this. So in the advent of a
candidate or multiple candidates, what is the strategy?
As
beautiful as graphics and posters are, aspirants from Queen Elizabeth II Hall
need more than that. The brave ones who have chosen to carry the battle to the
gates should know that their weapons of war should not be limited to
"Tàmèdò cares" or "Lágbájá wishes you a beautiful week".
Kunle Adepoju's building has been saturated with the political elites of UI and
getting a spot there will be no little achievement. What might not seem like a
big deal to others is the chance the hall needs to bring her back into the
circle of decision-makers.
While
we still await the lifting of the ban on electoral campaigns, we hope our
little 'messiahs' are dotting their 'I's and crossing their 't's. More than
anybody, Queen Elizabeth II hall aspirants need to have and tell the people
concrete and realistic plans while applying speed in their current political
sojourn. A father once said; " there are two things you need to go by till
you become established; Speed and Accuracy."
Queen
Elizabeth II Hall is on a mission to build a structure out of no structure and
while we will not want to liken her situation to that of the famous Peter Obi,
we cannot help but see a little similarity. However, whether or not something
good will come out of this adventure falls on the laps of the aspirants.
Also,
we hope that while reaching for the stars, we do not forget the mountain tops
that seem a little within reach.
