Faculty of Agriculture and Renewable Natural Resources holds Career fair program

 



On April 1, 2023, Career Impact Now, the Nigerian Association of Agricultural Students, U.I and Renewable Natural Resources Students’ Association, U.I collaborated to hold a Career fair which took place at the Large Lecture Theatre of the Faculty of Agriculture. The program began at 10 am with the registration of the attendees. 


The program kicked off with the introduction of the guest speakers; Mr Fawole Folorunso and Mrs Adejoke Lasisi. The first speaker, Mr Fawole, spoke on the topic ‘Advancing Professional Opportunities as an Undergraduate’. Mr Fawole in his speech said that 33% of the GDP in Nigeria is from agriculture and he stated that it can improve. He referenced the fact that agriculture is a highly lucrative business that can generate high yield and spoke about the various career paths in Agriculture which includes; production, processing, policy making, and so much more.

Fawole also highlighted things like getting experience in an agricultural company, networking with people in the agricultural field, joining agricultural-related associations, getting smart (involving technology in your agriculture business) and knowing where you fit in as tips that will help a student maximize opportunities in agriculture. After his session, he answered some questions asked by some students and encouraged students to start with the right motive. He was later presented with an award by the President of the Nigerian Association of Agricultural Students, U.I, Afolabi Nasarudeen.


The second guest speaker, Mrs Adejoke Lasisi was introduced as the founder of Planet 3R, a company that specializes in using pure water nylons and other reusable materials to make items such as bags. While addressing the attendees, she outlined three points that will help anyone who intends to start a business. She termed these points the three Ps: People (your business must meet the needs of people or add value to people), Planet (creating favourable conditions for the planet), and Profit.

She spoke on the need of creating a business that meets the needs of people and gave a lot of tips on how to be successful in business. She was also presented with an award by the President of the Renewable Natural Resources Students’ Association, U.I, Agboola Adedotun.

The event wrapped up with a debate titled; “Should government prioritize economic growth over environmental protection?” between the Faculty of Agriculture and the Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources. The Faculty of Agriculture supported the motion and won with 70 points while the Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources amassed just 66 points and lost.
