Fast food or homemade meals?

It is no longer a strange thing to see food delivery bikes flying around on campus delivering meals to different people in different halls.

Most students in hostels prefer fast food to cooking meals due to the stress involved in making their meals in the hostel. The scarcity of kerosene and the hike in the price of kerosene also discourage a lot of students from cooking their meals.

If a census is taken of how many ladies or students in general buy fast food, it will be realized that over 60% feed on fast food from eateries or restaurants.

What is so special about Fast food? Why do people go for takeout?

  • It saves you the stress of going to the kitchen to get food. Exhaustion and hunger are not a good mix and it suffices for students to get food from outside. In female hostels, it is a punishable offence to cook in the room and carrying stuff from the room to the kitchen can just be added stress when you are tired.

  •  Some ladies or students like the taste of takeout foods. There is something different about those foods from the one that is prepared by oneself. Some students can cook these meals and get this taste but where is the time? And where are the ingredients?

  • We do not have access to the equipment or utensils used to make certain meals. Fast food joints such as Chicken Republic, Kilimanjaro, and food restaurants on campus sell grilled chicken and toast bread, and we are not even allowed to bring a toaster to school talk more of other sophisticated utensils. 

  • Some students are just too lazy to cook. School is like their flex zone, they cannot stress themselves. So they just decide to eat out.

The reasons listed above are only just a few compared to so many other reasons.


Why do some prefer homemade meals?

This can help you look and feel healthier, boost your energy, stabilize your weight and mood, and improve your sleep and resilience to stress.

Nothing is wrong with getting fast food really because people have different reasons for getting fast food instead of making the meals themselves.
