You and your Mental Health

What is mental health?

A layman will say it is the well-being of a person’s mind.

Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects our feelings, responses, and actions, and determines how we handle stress and challenges. It is important to have positive mental health because you get to make the right decisions, build healthy relationships, and handle stress in the right way. You also get to enjoy life and every process of it. Anyone with negative mental health would oftentimes be frustrated, sad, depressed, and tired. You might have seen people who are going through a lot but do not look like it, they are still optimistic, it is because they have positive mental health - a positive mindset. They have a ‘we can do it’ attitude and on the other end are people who let things go the way they are, they have a poor mindset which is very limiting.

This image above kind of describes the way so many people feel about school currently, especially with the workloads of assignments, classes, tests and projects.

Now the question is this; is it possible to maintain a peaceful and sane mindset in school coupled with the numerous things we have to do?

  • Figure out what works for you, and set your schedules right. Don’t wait for deadlines before doing your assignments.

  •  Set your goals daily and you will realize how much you can do in a short time.

  • Never procrastinate; Procrastination can make the easiest of tasks look the hardest.

  • Keep the right people in your space.

  • Open up to people who can help you positively. They can be mentors, seniors, or your coursemates.

Stress is one of the things that affect the mental health of a person. Responding correctly to stress helps you build a strong mind and positive mental health.

Remember to stay positive!

Stay sane!
