Indy press and the Union of Campus Journalists released a news article on 12, November 2022 about the activities of the PRO, Olalekan Micheal, who had disregarded the Union’s Constitution regarding the U.I’SU TV. According to reports, an investigation was conducted and it was discovered that the Union’s PRO, OMA has been using his account number and phone number to conduct business regulating the U.I’SU WhatsApp TV. The implication of this is that monetary benefits gotten through adverts posted on the TV are sent directly to the PRO’s account and his phone number is the official business number.

According to the Union’s constitution, only the financial secretary is eligible to receive funds on behalf of the Union. When questioned as to the reason for his action, OMA responded that the Union does not understand what it takes to run a WhatsApp T.V, and the constitution should be reviewed to allow the office of the PRO to use funds to regulate the activities of the office as it deems fit. However, when asked if he has tabled this request with the Student Representative Council (SRC) - the body responsible for reviewing the Union’s constitution - he responded that he has not.

Another article was released by the U.I’SU T.V trying to debunk some of the allegations made against the PRO, nevertheless, this article in conspicuous terms re-states the PRO’s reasons for using his account number and phone number for the Union’s activity. In response to the allegations, the SRC during its sitting on 12, November 2022 concluded that there would be a thorough investigation to reveal the truth of the matter. Is this libel? The response to this will be revealed in subsequent days.
